Juicy Oranges

The school I teach at had a multicultural potluck this weekend and I brought my favorite East Indian Fruit Salad from the Moosewood Daily Special cookbook. I had to cut a whole bunch of oranges so I took them outside to cut in the beautiful weather that we have been having and it led to a great fruit salad but also an orange photo shoot.

I also had to include some photos that Gabe took of Rumi while camping last week. Note the crazy bat ears.

Finally Getting Started

Well it has taken me a while to get blogging but here I am. There was a little while there when I just didn't have much to share but suddenly there is so much going on in my life and there are just so many people out there that are feeling so very far away so I am now motivated to make that space feel just a little bit smaller. You will have to bare with me for a little bit though as I experiment with fonts and layout and stuff, things may not feel smooth for a bit while I get the hang of this thing. I guess the other hurdle that I had to get over with this whole blog thing is that I just really don't like computers that much. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE the internet but all the other things my computer is capable of doing just don't really interest me.

So let's get on with it shall we?

This is the first pair of socks that I have knitted. They turned out pretty well but I wish I had reinforced the toe and they are a little too big for me. Not bad though for a first effort. My husband took better pictures of them but I had to pick this one because you can see our dog Rumi in the background.

So this my first real pair of socks! They are knit with Cascade Fixation on size 3 needles. Bellow is a picture of them drying on the line after their first machine washing.

Although I have made many hats and scarves, there is a whole new kind of delight that I can't quite describe when I creep up my pant leg to peek at socks that I know I made myself. I have always loved owning fun socks so maybe it is just extra fun to have funky socks and to know that I made them myself. I have the first sock of a pair for Gabriel done and I am working on the second so keep an eye out for those in a few days.

I also wanted to just share some photos from our first hike in Spring. Enjoy!
